Electrical Estimator Commercial

Position Summary
The Commercial Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial work. This role involves reviewing project plans, specifications, and proposals to determine the scope of work, materials, labor, and equipment needed. The Electrical Estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, vendors, and clients to ensure estimates are complete, cost-effective, and aligned with company standards. Success in this position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of electrical systems, codes, and industry best practices.
Estimating & Bid Preparation
- Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for electrical systems including:
- Power distribution
- Lighting systems
- Branch circuits
- Low voltage systems
- Equipment connections
- Develop labor, material, and equipment cost estimates.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes.
- Build accurate project estimates using estimating software.
- Prepare complete bid packages and proposals.
Bid Strategy & Project Selection
- Evaluate project risk, schedule, and profitability.
- Participate in bid/no-bid decisions with leadership.
- Identify value engineering opportunities.
- Recommend alternative materials or installation methods to improve competitiveness.
Preconstruction Coordination
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits.
- Prepare RFIs during bidding.
- Clarify scope gaps or design issues.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
- Collect data to estimate costs for current or future projects.
- Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, construction foremen and General contractors to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
- Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Supervise and oversee all field activities and employees ensuring company standards across all services provided.
- Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Confer with supervisory personnel, owner, contractors, or design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, or installment problems.
- Distribute production schedules and work orders to departments.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate construction project activities to meet deadlines.
- Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports, and cost tracking reports.
- Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with housing and safety codes or other regulations.
- Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with environmental regulations.
